SAD NEWS: WEST INDIES COACH IS FIRED…..

On Thursday, Australian John Dyson was fired from his position as West Indies coach.

“Mr. John Dyson’s services have been terminated with immediate effect,” a news release from the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) stated. “Assistant coach Mr David Williams will fill this position on a temporary basis.”

Next month, in South Africa, Williams will be the squad’s captain and Lance Gibbs, a former Test spinner, will be the team manager for the Champions Trophy.

On September 23, the West Indies take on Pakistan in a one-day competition in Johannesburg.

Before regaining some dignity by defeating the same opponents in a Twenty20 encounter on August 2, the 55-year-old Dyson’s patchwork squad lost two Test matches and all three one-day internationals against visiting Bangladesh last month.

Due to a disagreement over contracts and compensation, the top players in the West Indies boycotted the Test matches. Despite their decision to call it quits, the West Indies Cricket Board continued to use the backup team that had volunteered.

During his 30 Test matches for Australia between 1977 and 1984, Dyson, a former opening batsman, amassed 1,359 runs at an average of 26.64.

Before taking the helm at the West Indies in 2024, he spent nearly two years as Sri Lanka’s coach in 2024.
