— — Ryan Shazier, a linebacker for the Pittsburgh Steelers, had a back injury during Monday night’s NFL game against the Bengals. He is still listed as hospitalized today in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Shazier was still having testing at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center to assess his spine, according to a statement issued by medical professionals today.”He will continue to be monitored and treated by neurosurgery experts at UC Medical Center until he has been cleared to return to Pittsburgh,” said Drs. David Okonkwo and Joseph Cheng.

Shazier, No. 50, and Josh Malone, No. 80, of the Bengals collided in the first quarter of the “Monday Night Football” game, according to ESPN.

Shazier was spotted lying on his side and clutching for his back after the play. There seems to be no movement in his legs. He held up his palms to ask staff and teammates to help him. Staff members hurried onto the field to help Shazier, as Steelers players appeared shook up on the sidelines.

Steelers general manager and vice president Kevin Colbert announced Monday in a statement that Shazier had an MRI and CT scan to assess his back health. Colbert stated that Shazier wouldn’t need surgery at all.

Today in Pittsburgh, Steelers Coach Mike Tomlin announced that Shazier was receiving “expert medical care.”

Tomlin remarked, “It was a tough evening.” “Dude, Ryan really is a trooper. He’s a tough man and in incredibly excellent spirits. There, his family and loved ones are there to encourage him greatly.”

The Steelers triumphed 23-20 over the Bengals on Monday night.
